Inner Child

I cradle her in my arms
She's fearful of what's to come because of what her eyes have seen
A mind and heart so pure
But with eyes tainted by pain and hurt
I protect her
I remind her
That she is what the world needs
Her worth can be compared to none
For her individuality is priceless
So I cradle her in my arms
I want to cushion her
Away from the blows that life will throw at her
A shock absorber to soften the impact
Impressionable she is
Naive she can be
Trying to see the good in those who have hurt her
Trying to accept her forever changing circumstances
Acknowledging her flaws
Accepting her failures as lessons
Is she growing up to fast?
But I protect her
I promise to do right by her

My inner child.
